Lamentations
Pre-Reading Strategies

Before starting Lamentations...
I wanted to share some pre-reading strategies with you to help you prepare in reading through any book of the Bible. Click below to watch the video where I walk through the two strategies.

KWL Chart
The first strategy is a KWL chart: KNOW, WANT to know, and LEARNED chart.

  • The far-left column is for things you already KNOW about that book/topic.
  • The middle column is what you WANT to know about that book.
  • The far-right column you fill out after you finish studying that book/topic. That column is what you LEARNED. It is neat to see the column fill with different things from the month of studying.

Introduction to Book of the Bible
The second pre-reading strategy is to look at the introduction to that book of the Bible and write down some statistics and information about that book. I am using the ESV Journaling Study Bible this year, and I really love the book introductions. I also love the NLT Illustrated Study Bible. That Bible also has a great introduction to each of the books of the Bible before you start reading it.

  • Author
  • When was it written?
  • How many chapters?
  • Where is it in the Bible?
  • What type of book is it? (Historical, poetry, prophecy, gospel, etc.)
  • Purpose of being written
